However, to cater the demands, the brand produces over 10 lakh motorcycles a year that means a new bike in every 2 seconds. As, it takes too much time, money and efforts to make a bike. So there are many steps to be taken before the final launch to a bike. It doesn’t mean that all the proposals would get approved. Might happen, not a single proposal could approved and further will get commercialized. 14 new proposals were made in 2019 to build a new royal enfield model in 2020.
Simon Warburton, Head of Product Development at Royal Enfield, said. “We’re always looking at ways to complete all the projects we have in progress (14 projects were presented last year), but there’ll always be more ideas than we can possibly do,” Of course, creating an all-new product isn’t a walk in the park. It involves serious planning, uncountable hours, and a hefty investment. “We have the Industrial Design team that makes the 2D and 3D sketches and renders, then we have the Engineering Design team split across chassis, engine and electrical. Within those teams, we’ll have several designers submitting ideas, but once a project is agreed, we’re all working in the same direction,”
Mark Wells, Head of Product Strategy at Royal Enfield, said, “We use a ‘gate’ process for each stage of production, which gives us constant checks that we’re achieving what we set out to, and that we’re making the right decisions. The investment goes up as we pass through each stage gate, so we’re able to constantly check the risk and that we’ve made the right trade-offs before the final quality-control gate, then production. We’re also test-riding designs right through the whole process.”

The effect of the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic can be clearly seen on all sectors including automobile sector. The Auto manufacturers in India claimed to have zero sales in the month of April 2020. Royal Enfield is not an exception. It sold only 91 units in April 2020. But Royal Enfield’s Managing Director Sidhartha Lal said, “We’ve had zero debt for about 14 years and it helps us in times of crisis and means we do not need to react in a knee-jerk way or in a manner which will affect our long-term success. If we have a few months of zero revenue, which is possibly the case right now, it’s okay, we will survive. We’re not hand to mouth anymore, like we were a decade ago, so we can invest tremendously in the future.” Launching a new royal enfield model 2020 will definitely help the company to regain its sales post lockdown.
